Welcome Letter

June 21, 2006

Dear Sisters and Associates,

Welcome to Theological Explorations.  We hope that the exploration materials that you find here and on the Triune God website will encourage your “minds and hearts” to, as Mary Ann Fatula says, “feast” on our triune God.  We used a “banquet” approach in developing these Theology Exploration materials rather than as an “everything you need to know” approach.  You will find essential pieces as well as many others that we believe will help you “feast” on our triune God.

The Exploration banquet began with Mary Ann Fatula’s conversation on the Triune God (check the library for the video/DVD of this event if you were unable to attend).  This event opened with S. Jean Ackerman’s dynamic presentation of Bach’s Organ Fugue in G minor, adapted for Piano by Olga Samaroff.  Jean chose this particular piece because to her it is a reflection of our triune God (if you missed her presentation or would like to use it for your own reflection you can obtain a copy in the Siena Center library or on the Theology Exploration’s website).

Other offerings of the Triune Explorations materials include “All Community Explorations” materials that invite you to “feast” in a variety of ways.  These materials include articles by a various author’s with and without study and reflection guides, opportunities to form small group discussions (in person or online, see your materials for the details) around Mary Ann Fatula’s short book The Triune God of Christian Faith.  The Triune Explorations also includes opportunities for study and reflection using art, music, poetry, and the movies.  A bibliography of some newer works is offered for your consideration.

If you are interested in reflection and study at a deeper level, you will want to check out “For Further Explorations” materials from the Siena Center library.  Here you will find additional articles by some of our favorite authors that consider the triune God from additional perspectives.  Two other opportunities for study include sessions that will be presented this summer by our Associate, Lisa-Marie Duffield, and this fall, by Bea Dorsey who will consider the triune God from the lens of New Cosmology.

The Triune God website will give you the opportunity to explore the triune God from a variety of experts.  Links to articles, artwork, and music are available here for your consideration.  The website will also give you an opportunity to share your own reflections, poetry or music with the wider community.  This fall we hope to have a display of artwork, poetry, music, pottery etc. that community members create because of their “feasting” on the triune God.

The Theology Explorations committee hopes that we have created a banquet that will invite you to “feast” on our triune God.  Most especially, we hope that we have helped to create an environment where each of you is invited to go deeper into your understanding of our triune God.  May this going deeper cause you to hunger for more and help you to deepen your relationship with our triune personal God.
